Job Objective:
To assist in the provision of legal services to NIPDEC.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advice and opinions on all matters required by NIPDEC, its divisions and departments.
- Drafts, vets and certifies contracts, leases, conveyances, bonds, loan documents, securities, bill of sale, mortgages and other legal documents.
- Do research on various aspects of the law.
- Form part of the negotiating teams with external clients on behalf of NIPDEC for contracts.
- Attend the Magistrate and High Court on behalf of NIPDEC.
- Liaise with external Attorneys with respect to the litigation portfolio including the preparation of briefs to external counsel.
- Represent the department at various operational committee meetings appointed by the General Manager.
- Assist with the preparation of monthly departmental reports, annual budgets and strategic business plans.
- Perform any other related duties as necessary
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor of Laws Degree and possession of a Legal Education Certificate.
- A minimum of three (3) years’ experience two (2) of which should be in litigation with emphasis in civil litigation, preferably in a corporate environment.
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Special Skills and Knowledge:
- Considerable knowledge of litigation practices and procedures.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Good analytical, problem solving and information gathering skills
- Good supervisory skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Highly motivated and able to work with minimum supervision.
- Competence in use of the Microsoft Office software package.

- Standards set in relation to the Department’s business plan, strategic objectives and budgets.
- NIPDEC’s policies and procedures.
- Established professional standards, industry best practice and statutory requirements.
